2023 Victorian Architecture Awards shortlist

Building Engineering would like to congratulate McIldowie Partners and DesignInc Melbourne for being shortlisted for the upcoming Australian Institute of Architects Victorian Architecture Awards.

The shortlisted projects are:

Educational Architecture

Ivanhoe Grammar Sports and Aquatic Centre – McIldowie Partners

Sustainable Architecture

Glenroy Community Hub – Designinc Melbourne

Building Engineering worked alongside McIIldowie Partners to deliver the exceptional Ivanhoe Grammar Sports and Aquatic Centre. The world-class 6-level sporting and education facility is set within a sensitive residential and landscape context. The project involved the delivery of four multipurpose basketball/netball courts, two tennis courts, change facilities, a weights room, aerobics and yoga studios, classrooms, staff offices, a kiosk, and a variable-depth 50m pool.

Building Engineering partnered with Designinc Melbourne to deliver Australia’s first Passivhaus certified community building, the Glenroy Community Hub. The multi-award-winning facility is a demonstration of the City of Merri-bek’s commitment to world-leading, sustainable design.

Victorian chapter president David Wagner said the standard of submissions in 2023 appears to be even higher with sophisticated responses to context, form, space, materiality, technology, and sustainability.

“Those shortlisted are commonly amazing projects that have been thoroughly considered, designed and have come together to create a special outcome for the client,” he said.

Building Engineering would like to wish McIldowie Partners and DesignInc Melbourne the best of luck for the upcoming awards. It has been an absolute pleasure working with you and the team to deliver these impressive buildings.

Winners will be announced on the 16 of June.
