Building Engineering champions safer sites with new “Hands First” campaign

More than fifty Building Engineering team members came together at our Richmond Primary School project last week to mark National Safe Work Month, reinforcing our commitment to keeping every worker safe, every day.

Led by Integrated Management Systems Manager George Papadopetros, the morning focused on one of the most common and preventable causes of workplace injury: hand injuries. With more than 80% of medical treatment incidents involving hands, the spotlight this year is squarely on empowering workers to protect their most important tools.

During the event, George announced the rollout of our new Mandatory Glove Carrying Policy, requiring every person on-site to always have gloves with them. The initiative aims to improve access to appropriate PPE on the spot, helping workers make safer choices before starting a task.

George shared. “We’re proud to launch our new safety campaign: “Hands First” and “Use the Right Glove for the Job.” These reminders will appear across our sites to encourage everyone to think before they act and protect the tools that build everything, our hands.”

A special thank you goes to Total Tools, who supported glove distribution across all projects, and PIP Global Safety, the provider behind the high-quality PPE issued on site.

We were also joined by safety experts from Milwaukee and Makita, who demonstrated safe tool use and a variety of equipment, emphasising that choosing the right equipment is key to reducing preventable injuries.

The Richmond Primary School gathering highlighted the strength and engagement of our teams, with workers from across the business taking part in demonstrations, conversations, and training focused on hand safety.

National Safe Work Month is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and improve, but at Building Engineering, safety is never a once-a-year focus. It’s core to how we plan, work, and support each other, every day.
