Exciting partnership begins – groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of construction at Wantirna College

In a momentous occasion marked by excitement and anticipation, Wantirna College, in collaboration with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and Building Engineering, celebrated the commencement of construction for a new state-of-the-art two-court competition grade gymnasium, complete with music and performing arts classrooms. This venture promises a significant upgrade to the school’s facilities, amplifying its commitment to nurturing student potential across various disciplines.

Building Engineering, in partnership with esteemed collaborators including Superintendent Bridge42, Kosloff Architecture, Atlus Group, Outlines Landscape Architecture, Matter, and Lucid Consulting Australia, is thrilled to embark on this transformative journey alongside Wantirna College and the broader community.

Yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony included esteemed members from the Wantirna College school community, as well as State Member for Bayswater, Jackson Taylor MP. Reflecting on the milestone, School Principal Carrie Wallis expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “A truly exciting moment for us at Wantirna College, as we commemorate the beginning of construction. We are thrilled to partner with Building Engineering in delivering this project we have dreamt about for a long time come into reality. We know how important these facilities are for our kids and that’s what it is all about, to make sure we have the best facilities for our students.”

The ceremony featured a traditional smoking ceremony and welcome to country led by Wurundjeri Man, Thane Garvey. Eucalyptus leaves were ceremoniously burned, symbolising the cleansing and protection of the construction site, while honouring the Indigenous heritage of the land.

This project stands as one of the largest undertaken for the Knox community, with a value exceeding $15 million. The transformative impact of this initiative is poised to resonate deeply within Wantirna College, enriching the educational experience for generations to come.

As construction progresses, the collaboration between Wantirna College, Building Engineering, and their esteemed partners underscores a shared commitment to innovation, excellence, and community advancement. Together, they are laying the foundation for a future where students thrive in an environment designed to fit their unique skills and aspirations.
