Transforming Collins Place: Building Engineering delivers major redevelopment for Mirvac

Building Engineering is proud to announce the completion of the transformative redevelopment of 55 Collins Street, a landmark at Melbourne’s prestigious “Paris End.”

Engaged by long-standing client Mirvac, with Turner & Townsend as Project Manager, Grimshaw as Architect, and with engineering and sustainability expertise from NDY, this project has redefined the tower’s ground plane, lobby, End-of-Trip facilities, and Levels 1 & 2.

Andrew Perez, Partner at Grimshaw ANZ, said the project is about reinterpreting architecture with purpose: “At 55 Collins, we have worked to honour the building’s history while drawing it forward into a new rhythm of city life.”

Anita Louey, Capital Works State Manager at Mirvac, shares her experience working with Building Engineering. “Well done to the whole Building Engineering team! It is not just the end product but the collaborative journey between all involved in this project, which I am really proud of. Thank you for delivering this transformative redevelopment project at 55 Collins.”

“Congratulations to the team who has brought this transformation to fruition, and achieved an exceptional result for our customers, existing and new.” Scott Mosely, CEO, Funds Management at Mirvac.

A Modern Workplace Destination

The redevelopment has delivered a reimagined ground-floor lobby, revitalised podium levels, upgraded floorplates, premium End-of-Trip amenities, and a refined façade. Designed with careful stewardship, the upgrades enhance flow, transparency, and connection, while honouring the distinctive character of the original tower. The Collins Place precinct has attracted several new customers, including Salesforce.

Collaboration at the Core

Working in a live environment alongside tenants, Sofitel Melbourne, Kino Cinemas, and retail precincts required precise planning and collaboration. Building Engineering partnered closely with Mirvac, Grimshaw, NDY and Turner & Townsend to deliver a modern, inviting workplace while ensuring minimal disruption. The redevelopment was delivered alongside other major capital works at Collins Place, requiring close coordination to achieve a smooth and cohesive modernisation process.

Honouring a Legacy

Originally designed by I.M. Pei and completed in 1981, Collins Place remains one of Melbourne’s most iconic developments. This redevelopment honours the tower’s architectural heritage while setting a new benchmark for contemporary design, creating a welcoming, modern environment that attracts new tenants and visitors, reaffirming Collins Place as a premier work and lifestyle destination.
