Award spotlight: Northern Memorial Park Depot takes centre stage with multiple wins

We are beyond proud to shine a spotlight on one of our standout projects — the Northern Memorial Park Depot, which has won four awards at the 2025 Victorian Architecture Awards presented by the Australian Institute of Architects.

Designed by the exceptional team at Searle X Waldron Architecture and proudly delivered by Building Engineering for the Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, the project dominated at the 2025 Australian Institute of Architects Victorian Architecture Awards, receiving:

– Victorian Architecture Medal (the top honour)
– Melbourne Prize
– Commercial Architecture Award
– Commendation for Sustainable Architecture

The jury praised the two-storey, mass-timber operations hub for creating “a sustainable and beautiful workplace for those in emotionally challenging roles,” with standout features including a pleated and perforated screen façade and extensive use of timber, contributing to its warmth, lightness, and low-carbon footprint.

The Melbourne Prize jury shared high praise:

“The depot redefines what a civic workplace can be – uplifting, sustainable and deeply attuned to place… a beacon of care and quiet optimism.”

This suite of awards comes hot on the heels of the project’s Dulux Colour Award win.
