Bogong Car Park extension complete — doubling capacity with a sustainable edge
Building Engineering is proud to announce the successful completion of the Bogong Car Park Extension, a $40 million transformation in the heart of Glen Waverley, delivered in partnership with the City of Monash, Touch Projects as the Project Manager, and Katz Architecture.
Completed in just 18 months, and three weeks ahead of schedule, the project has doubled the car park’s capacity from 500 to 1,000 spaces by refurbishing the existing four-level structure and constructing an additional four levels above.
The project involved a major refurbishment and structural upgrade of the existing four-level car park, followed by the construction of four new levels. The car park now features a contemporary glass façade with interactive lighting, a new lift and lift well, dedicated EV charging bays, and smart parking guidance and enforcement systems. Built with safety in mind, the design incorporates Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles, improved lighting, and anti-climb measures for a safer user experience.
At the core of this project was a strong commitment to sustainability. Rather than opting for demolition and a new build, the existing structure was extensively strengthened and upgraded, significantly reducing construction waste and embodied carbon. This adaptive reuse approach supports the City of Monash’s broader environmental goals and sets a benchmark for future urban infrastructure.
Key sustainability features include Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and a PV solar system that will power the building’s lifts, lighting, EV charging bays and other services.
This future-ready facility supports the growing needs of the precinct, delivering a practical and innovative solution that enhances community access while upholding strong environmental values.
