Building Engineering celebrates excellence at the 2026 Victorian Architecture Awards

Building Engineering was proud to sponsor the Public Architecture category at the 2026 Victorian Architecture Awards, recognising projects that enhance communities, enrich the public realm, and demonstrate the transformative power of architecture.

The category’s highest honour, The William Wardell Award, was presented to New Footscray Hospital by Cox Architecture and Billard Leece Partnership. The landmark project was recognised alongside an outstanding field of public architecture projects that showcase innovation, collaboration, and community impact.

An Award was also presented to Balam Balam Place by Kennedy Nolan, Finding Infinity and Openwork, which went on to claim an impressive five awards across the evening. Commendations were awarded to Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct by Architecture Associates, with Openwork, and to Wyndham Law Courts by Lyons, with the Sunbury project also receiving four accolades throughout the awards program.

Reflecting on this year’s entries, Jury Chair Simon Knott highlighted the strength of community-focused projects that reimagine existing places, create opportunities for connection, and breathe new life into public spaces across Victoria.

Building Engineering congratulates all award recipients and commended teams on their achievements and their ongoing contribution to shaping vibrant, inclusive, and enduring public places for Victorian communities.
