Construction of the Dandenong Tech School commenced in August 2025 and is scheduled for completion in July 2026. Building Engineering is delivering this exciting project for Chisholm Institute of TAFE under a Design and Construct contract. Once complete, the state-of-the-art Tech School will provide more than 13,500 students from 23 local secondary schools with dynamic, hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning experiences, equipping them with the skills needed for the jobs of the future.
This purpose-built, single-storey building spans approximately 1,200 square metres and has been designed to reflect the identity of the Dandenong community. The facility will accommodate up to 80 students at a time, with dynamic indoor and outdoor learning spaces to support a wide range of programs.
At the centre of the building is an open-air courtyard, designed as a calm and welcoming space where students can take a break between programs. This courtyard brings natural light throughout the interior and has been designed to support passive cooling, allowing cooler air to accumulate overnight and circulate during the day, helping to regulate indoor temperatures during warmer months.
The building’s façade will feature projection capabilities for integration with Dandenong’s arts and cultural events, while the interiors include references to the local landscape. Topographical design elements mirror the contours of Dandenong and the path of Dandenong Creek, and a visual representation of a yarning circle depicts the 7 seasons of the Bunurong people’s seasonal calendar.
The result will be a high-quality facility that supports advanced technology and targeted learning programs while reflecting the history, culture, and character of the local area.
